Rio 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier were neck-and-neck on Friday, though it looks like the weekend is going to the birds.

Playing at 3,948 locations, Rio 2 took the top spot on Friday with $12 million. That's an improvement over the first Rio, which earned $10.3 million on opening day back in 2011. For the weekend, Rio 2 will take the top spot with at least $45 million.

Captain America wasn't far behind with $11.9 million. That's a steep 68 percent drop from last Friday; in comparison, Thor: The Dark World fell 67 percent, while Iron Man 3 plummeted 71 percent. Captain America should earn just over $40 million for the weekend.

Supernatural horror movie Oculus took third place with a solid $4.94 million. Among April horror movies, that's about on par with Insidious ($4.8 million), but below The Cabin in the Woods ($5.5 million). By Sunday, Oculus could earn as much as $13 million.

In fourth place, Draft Day opened to an estimated $3.58 million. That's a little over half as much as Moneyball ($6.7 million), and is also noticeably lower than Leatherheads ($4.6 million). For the weekend, Draft Day should wind up just over $10 million.

Divergent rounded out the Top Five with $2.35 million. The young-adult hit should earn over $7 million for the three-day frame.

Weekend Projections
1. Rio 2 - $45 million
2. Captain America - $41 million
3. Oculus - $12.5 million
4. Draft Day - $10.4 million
